The chapter has been closed on the hiring of a new clerk as the town of North Carrollton named Gylnnis Taylor as their newest town clerk.

During their regularly scheduled meeting Monday, the board, with exception of Tom Hearn, voted in favor of Taylor. Eddie Carpenter made the motion to hire Taylor and Jennifer Marett seconded it. Diane Slocum and Mitch Costilow voted in favor. Hearn was not present during the vote.

Taylor, according to the board, was once an employee at Viking Range in Greenwood before losing her job as a result of several layoffs.

During Tuesday night's meeting, the board sorted through several dozen applications. The clerk's job will pay ten dollars per hour.

For the past couple of weeks, Taylor has volunteered at city hall after the departure of a temporary employee who replaced Don Gray.

"She's an extremely hard worker," Carpenter said. "Her resume was very impressive, and when she is given a job she does it."

Mayor Pete Misskelly said the hiring is a closed chapter on moving the town forward.

"The town depends on the clerk and a town like this one, the clerk has to fill all the channels," Misskelly said.

Misskelly said whether it is the clerk, auditor, or lawyer, their job has to be done the way it needs to be.

"I think [Taylor] is a level headed person that treats everybody right," Misskelly said. "She is very qualified, and it is a plus for the town."

Last month, Don Gray resigned as the clerk after stating differences with the mayor as his primary reason. A week later, during a special meeting, Peggy Caulder who was to temporary replace Gray, was also let go. The reason for Caulder's release is unknown.

In March, the board voted to hire Pearlie Simpson as an assistant clerk to Gray. A week later the board rescinded the vote and Simpson's hire failed. At the March special meeting, Hearn and Carpenter voted against the action taken. Hearn also called the vote "unfair."
