WINONA -- The Montgomery County Economic Development Partnership has a new face.
Janet M. Harper was hired as assistant director of the EDP, a part-time position.
Harper is not a stranger to the office. Before four years off to become a stay-at-home mom, Harper held the position at the EDP for two years.
“I am so happy to be back and I am also happy about being in our new location,” Harper said. “I am ready to help Montgomery County move forward.”
Since beginning in May, Harper and executive director Sue Stidham has worked with the Mississippi Development Authority to help make Montgomery County a more business-friendly area.
“We serve all the businesses in Montgomery County,” Harper said. “Whatever the need, we are available.”
She also assisted writing two grants for new welcome signs in Winona and with the Holiday Inn Express project currently under construction at Interstate 55 and Highway 82.
“We also kicked off Montgomery Cares to support our local soldiers while they are serving in Iraq,” she said.
Montgomery Cares is a project close to Harper’s heart. Her husband, Staff Sgt. Jimmy Harper is currently deployed to Iraq.
“This is his second tour,” Harper said. “He is a full-time soldier, and he runs the armory in Winona.”
The couple has four children: Kierah, 4; Keenan, 17; LaShell, 18; and LaQuita, 16.
A graduate of Kilmichael High School, Harper attended USA Academy for Secretaries in Jackson in 1989.
