The Montgomery County Economic Partnership is organizing care packages to be sent with each of the soldiers from the Winona National Guard who are deploying to Iraq in mid-June.

According to Sue Stidham, each package will contain gum, candy, toiletries, trinkets from home, a disk of photographs from the community send off, and other goodies.

"The cost of the packages are $20, and we are selling sponsorships to businesses and individuals wanting to sponsor a package for one of the soldiers," Stidham said.

Stidham said this program is similar to what Kosciusko did for its troops, and Winona needs to do something similar to show the troops how much the community supports them.

"We need to show them and their families all the support we can," Stidham said.

Deadline for sponsorships is June 12. Please call the EDP at 662-283-4828 for more details.
