Local Winona leaders are organizing a farewell celebration on Friday morning at 10 a.m. at the Winona National Guard Armory. The troops will leave the Armory at 10:59 a.m. and drive south on Highway 51 toward Vaiden.
Citizens are asked to gather along the route wave farewell and show signs of support and patriotism. School children from Winona Elementary School and Winona Christian School are currently planning to be lined up along the highway to thank the troops.
This small act of kindness can be such a sustaining act of good will. The troops will leave knowing their community is in support of their mission, and they will know that their sacrifice - the sacrifice of leaving their families and friends behind to fight for their country - is not in vain.
The community is urged to participate in the farewell celebration. American troops have earned every respect from this country and its citizens as well as overwhelming gratitude for their selfless service, and these troops - made up of friends and neighbors - should deserve no less.
