Lady Rebs on the way to a district championship

CARROLLTON -- The Carroll Academy Lady Rebels look as if they are well on their way to a district title.

After knocking off Humphreys Academy in a Tuesday night doubleheader, the Lady Rebels improve to 5-0 in district play.

The Lady Rebels defeated Humphreys in the first game 15-0 behind a Hope Clanton one hitter. Avery Thornton had two RBIs in the first inning, but it was the second and third inning where the Lady Rebels opened up the game.

Megan Shelton singled, McCrary walked, Thornton singled, and Womble walked. In the second Madison Shelton singled to get things started and scored on a Clanton double, Sandy Tackett drove in Clanton with a ground out. In the third Cori McCrary hit an inside-the-park homer; Sydney Claire Liddell was hit by pitch; and Thornton ended the game with an inside-the-park homer of her own. The only base runner for HA was erased on a double play.

The Lady Rebels won game two 13-1 and improved their record to 17-3-1 on the season. Tackett won that game, going four innings and striking out eight. The Lady Rebels scored four runs in the first inning, eight runs in the second and one in the third. Katie Clark, Thornton, Anna Cleveland, Kalie Teal, Madison Shelton all had hits. Madison Turner and McCrary both had homeruns.
