BLACK HAWK -- An ATV accident near the Carroll and Holmes County line claimed the life of a Black Hawk man over the weekend.

According to Carroll County Sheriff Jerry Carver, a man he identified as Casey Andrews, 27, of Black Hawk died early Sunday morning after riding an ATV with a group on private property near Highway 17.

“The call came to the sheriff’s department around 11:45 Saturday night,” Carver said. “We were called to a field near Highway 17.”

Carver said Andrews, who was the driver of the Can-Am 1000, along with two others, lost control of the ATV. Carver said the two others on the ATV were ejected after losing control, and Andrews was pinned underneath.

Med Stat Ambulance Service attempted to transport Andrews to the University Medical Center in Lexington, but he died en route. Carver said Lexington was the closest hospital to the scene, and he was to be airlifted to Jackson’s UMC. Carver said the two others involved in the accident received only minor injuries.
