On Thursday night, pink will be the color as Carroll Academy hosts its first Breast Cancer Awareness Softball Game in Carrollton against Winona Christian.

At the start of both junior varsity and varsity matchups, breast cancer survivors will throw out the first pitch of the game. The junior varsity matchup begins at 5:30 followed by the varsity matchup at 6:30.

Lady Rebels

The Carroll Academy Lady Rebels are off to a 2-0 start in district play and improved that record Tuesday with a 6-0 victory over Central Holmes. In that game, Hope Clanton went five innings for the win and four strikeouts.

The Lady Rebels scored four in the top of the first. Ashtyn Carpenter led off with a single; Cori McCrary doubled her home; and Sydney Liddell singled driving McCrary home. Avery Thornton then singled; Madison Shelton walked; and Clanton singled, driving home Liddell and Thornton.

Carroll scored two more runs in the third. Thornton singled; Madison Womble sacrificed her to second; and she scored on a Shelton single. Clanton singled; Sandy Tackett sacrificed; Carpenter reached on an error as Shelton scored.

“We played super defense, no errors, and made all the plays,” said Rusty Miller.

The Lady Rebels improved their record to 12-2 on the season.

WCS Lady Stars

The Winona Christian Lady Stars are up to nine wins on the season and are currently 1-1 in district play.

The Lady Stars fell to North Delta Tuesday night 11-4 in Batesville, behind what head coach Mike Montgomery called “five costly errors.”

The Lady Stars led the game 4-2 until the fifth inning, and in that inning five errors allowed the Lady Green Wave to score seven runs.

“We’re improving,” Montgomery said. “It’s just one of those deals where our youth have about four or five great games and a few errors get in the way.”

The Lady Stars jumped out early on North Delta when Sara Grace Flatt had two RBI when she knocked in Megan Macko and Caitlyn Castille for a 2-0 lead. In the third inning, Macko reached base and scored on a Castille RBI. Castille would later score on a Flatt double.
