Thelma Tucker Drake, 91 of Greenwood died Tuesday, July 8, 2014 at her residence. Memorial services were at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 12, 2014 at First United Methodist Church in Greenwood. Visitation was from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Friday, July 11, 2014 at Wilson & Knight Funeral Home and Saturday, July 12, 2014 from 9:30 a.m. until service time at the church. Interment was in Odd Fellows Cemetery in Greenwood. Rev. Brad Hodges officiated at the services.
Mrs. Drake was born December 26, 1922 in Greenwood to William and Frances Hill Tucker. She was preceded in death by her husband of over sixty years, John Drake, whom she first met at the Army Air Base in Greenwood during World War II. She was a member of First United Methodist Church where she was a member of the Women's Circle and at one time taught Sunday school. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Mrs. Drake attended Mississippi State College for Women and worked for 45 years at Bankston Elementary School in the cafeteria where she was called "ticket lady" by the children. She was also preceded in death by her son Dr. Robert Earl Drake, sisters Helen Tucker Killegrew, Marie Tucker Encke, and son-in-law Aubrey Lee Higginbotham, Jr.
Mrs. Drake is survived by her son, Gregory Alan Drake and his wife Elizabeth of Lexington, Ky. and her daughters, Katheryn Drake Higginbotham of Meridian and Mary Frances Drake Droke and husband Wayne of Bartlett, Tenn. She is also survived by eight grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
