Funeral services for Mrs. Velia Mae Rivers of Stewart were at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 12, at Milligan Springs Baptist Church near Stewart, with burial following in the church cemetery. Rev. Jerry Bingham officiated the services.

Visitation was Friday, July 11, from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m., at Lee Funeral Home.

Mrs. Rivers, 93, died from complications of Alzheimer's disease at Grenada Living Center in Grenada on Tuesday, July 8. She was born in Stewart on August 15, 1920, to the late James Yancy and Lula Mae Pace Peacock. She was a homemaker and a member of Milligan Springs Baptist Church near Stewart. She enjoyed gardening, flowers, and quilting. Mrs. Rivers was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Lester Rivers; her son, Sonny Rivers; and five sisters.

Survivors include her daughter, Linda Oswalt (Fred) of Grenada; sister, Cynthia Faulkner of Waxahatchie, Texas; two grandchildren, Candace Logan (Brian) of Madison and Craig Oswalt of Eupora; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were Juward Rivers, Johnny Robert Oates, Yancy Pogue, William Rivers, Paul Rivers, and Redale Oswalt.

Memorial contributions may be made to Milligan Springs Cemetery Fund.
