Investigation continues in shooting

WINONA – Police are investigating a shooting that occurred Monday night on Campbell Street.

According to Captain Tommy Bibbs, police officers responded to reports of a public fight on the west side of Campbell Street around 9:30 p.m. Monday night. Bibbs said upon arrival, officers discovered a young man at the scene suffering from a gunshot wound.

“[Injuries to the victim] appeared to be life-threatening,” Bibbs said.

The victim was airlifted to University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson.

Bibbs declined to release the victim’s name, age, or condition as of press time on Wednesday.

The Mississippi Department of Investigation’s Lt. Mark Steed is assisting the Winona Police Department in the shooting investigation.
