She was born on February 27, 1937 to the late G.F. and Tommie (Childress) Hays in Tallahatchie County and resided in Greenwood most of her life. She was a retired childcare provider, and a member of the Calvary Baptist Church, where she was active in the preschool department. She is preceded in death by her husband, James E. Barefoot, and a brother Franklin Hays.
Visitation was held on Wednesday May 21, 2014 from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Williams & Lord Funeral Home in Greenwood. Funeral services were held Wednesday, May 21, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at Williams & Lord Funeral Home in Greenwood with Dr. Wayne Kimbrough officiating.
Burial was at the Odd Fellows East. Pallbearers was Billy Barefoot, George Barefoot, Cliff Barefoot, Billy Stinson, Ben Jones, and Joseph Mann. Honorary pallbearers were James Easton Huskey, Remington Huskey, and Bingham Perry.
She is survived by a daughter, Cindy Nokes of Greenwood; two sons, Jackie Barefoot of Greenwood and Jamie Barefoot of McCalla, Ala.; two sisters, Doris Hanna of Zachary, La. and Frances Brownlee of Louisa, Ky.; one brother, George Hays of Carrollton; five grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
