The boys had the better day finishing fifth overall with 37 overall points. Hinds AHS took the state championship with JFK finishing second. Ashland finished third, and Shaw came in fourth place.
For the boys it was Michael Eskridge who had a stellar day in the 3200 meters. Eskridge, the sophomore, finished in third place in that race, and Malik Flowers had sixth place finishes in the 110 and 300 meters hurdles.
The boys 4x100 relay team of Jason Henson, Demarius Womack, Akkevious Robinson and Justin Henson had a second place finish, and the 4x400 relay team of Jason Henson, Justin Henson, Eskridge and Robinson had a fourth place finish.
Justin Henson finished fourth in the long jump and fifth place in the triple jump. Jason Henson finished fourth in the triple jump.
The Lady Hornets finished eighth in the 1A meet on Monday at Pearl, finishing with 34 points. Mound Bayou’s JFK, Coldwater, and Myrtle finished in the top three spots.
Keilah Weathersby, a junior, had a stellar day with third place finishes in the pole vault and the high jump. Eighth grader Whitney Finchis finished in sixth place, and Jamenesha Brown, the sophomore Lady Hornet, had fifth place finishes in both the 100 and 300 hurdles.
The 4x100 relay team of Whitney Finchis, Army Williams, Tatyana Kenney and Weathersby earned a fifth place finish.
The girls 4x200 relay team of Hanna Hudson, Weathersby, Tatyana Kenney and Army Williams had a seventh place finish, and the 4x400 meter relay team of seventh grader Alecia Leach, eighth grader Arkeveah Gayden, Hudson, and Williams finished seventh as well.
