WINONA -- The Winona Lady Tigers fast pitch softball team will get the highly-anticipated rematch against Water Valley Friday, but most importantly, head coach Steven Helms wants that win.
The Lady Tigers have not taken the field this week due to rain and will travel to Charleston today. On Friday, they will host the Lady Blue Devils at 2 p.m.
The Lady Tigers fell 8-7 at Independence on Saturday and are now sitting at 2-2 in district play. As the playoffs begin next week, Helms said the only thing that matters right now is a Water Valley win.
"Worst case scenario, we finish second in the district," Helms said. "But if we beat Water Valley, and Independence also beats them, we hold the tiebreaker and could finish first."
In the Independence game, Helms said the Lady Tigers hit the ball hard and only struck out twice in the entire game.
Whitney Shaw had a stellar game, leading things off with a triple that scored the first two runs.
