Senior pitcher Cassidy DeNoon, for the Winona Lady Tigers, came back in the knick of time as 2-3A play begins.

DeNoon, who missed the last six games with injury, returned last week against Eupora and was back in the circle against district opponent Water Valley. The Lady Tigers fell to the Lady Blue Devils 1-0 in their first league match up.

DeNoon struck out 12 Water Valley players, but it was the Lady Blue Devils who scored in the first inning.

"We had some base running issues, but that'll be corrected," Helms said. "There isn't any panic on our part."

Helms said players like Paula Ables, Mary Ashton Thornburg and Mycala Helms have hit the ball well in the past few games, and others are coming around.

DeNoon made her debut against Eupora last week and struck out eight batters in the Lady Tigers' 4-1 win over the Lady Eagles.

"We're glad to have her [DeNoon] back," Helms said. "She came out strong, and that's after not pitching for two weeks."

The Lady Tigers (4-4) host East Webster today.
