In the past five years, the track and field program at Montgomery County has had a great run.

Both the boys and girls have made championship runs in the 1A scene, and this year Josh Glasner returns as boys and girls coach. It was only three years ago when both the Hornets and Lady Hornets, during Glasner's last year before leaving for J.Z. George, won the 1A South State Tournament.

The Hornets will be one of 40 teams to take part in the Ole Miss Invitational on Saturday to start the official season.

Glasner said this year's girls' team is a young group, but they have several return participants who made a splash last season.

"They're young, but they're pretty good," Glasner said.

Returning for the Lady Hornets will be ninth grader Whitney Fincher, who went to the state last year in the 100 meters.

Eighth grader Tatyana Kenney, who had a fifth place finish in the long jump last year, returns this season as well as Army Williams, who will likely be sprinting. Glasner said Keilah Weathersby will also return to this year's girls' group.

For the boys sophomore Michael Eskridge, who ran both the 3200 and 1600 in the 1A state finals last year, returns for another shot. Eskridge had a third place finish in the two-mile.

Returning this season for the boys' team will be Akkevious Robinson, Demarius Womack keenan Holman and George Brown. Both Jason and Justin Henson return as well.
