WINONA - A Montgomery County man is being held without bond after being charged with murder.

Britt Dearinger, 57, stands accused of fatally shooting his son, Matthew Dearinger, 33, of Olive Branch, on the evening of March 13, 2014. The incident occurred at Britt Dearinger's home, located at 920 Sawyer Road in Montgomery County.

According to Montgomery County Sheriff Bubba Nix, Britt Dearinger called 911 at 6:34 p.m. to report the shooting.

First on the scene, Nix said he discovered Matthew Dearinger's body lying in the carport of the home. He had been shot multiple times with a .45 automatic pistol. Nix said other family members were at the home when the shooting occurred.

Nix said he notified the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation and the Mississippi Crime Lab to process the scene, and the victim's body was transported to Jackson for an autopsy.

Britt Dearinger was at the scene when Nix arrived and was taken into custody later that evening and charged with murder. He was taken to the Carroll-Montgomery Regional Correctional Facility in Vaiden, where he remains.

Friday, an initial hearing was held in Montgomery County Justice Court, and Judge Larry Bamberg denied bond. Public defender Lee Bailey was appointed as defense counsel.

A preliminary hearing is set for April 8 in Montgomery County Justice Court.
