Visitation for Michael Allan Hawkins was held from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. Tuesday at Wilson & Knight Funeral Home in Greenwood, followed by graveside services at 2 p.m. at the Itta Bena Cemetery.

Mr. Hawkins, 63, of Itta Bena passed away Sunday, Feb. 16, 2014, at Greenwood Leflore Hospital surrounded by family and friends.

Born Dec. 23, 1950, in Itta Bena to Mamie Bruce Hawkins and Howard Nathan Hawkins, he was a lifelong resident of Itta Bena and a graduate of Leflore County High School. He farmed cotton and soybeans and later became a catfish farm manager, then owner and operator of Mike's Trucking.

An avid hunter all his life, Mr. Hawkins was a past member of the Itta Bena Hunting Club and Half Mile Hunting Club.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Hawkins was preceded in death by four sisters and two brothers.

He is survived by two daughters, Cary Hawkins New, with her husband Richard Noah New, of Collierville, Tenn., and Keely Hawkins Harrison, with her husband John Trent Harrison, of Itta Bena; two sisters, Sybil Hawkins Fulgham of Itta Bena and Hulda Hawkins Shaw of Southaven; one brother, Howard Bruce Hawkins of Sunflower; two grandsons, John Easton Harrison and Parker Allan Harrison of Itta Bena; and many nieces and nephews.

Serving as pallbearers were Richie Fulgham, Donald Fulgham, Mike Hawkins, Hunter Hawkins, Howie Hawkins, Danny Holliman, Howard Holliman, Ward Gilbert and Mike O'Dell.

Honorary pallbearers were members of Half Mile Hunting Club.

Rev. Higdon Herrington of Itta Bena officiated at the graveside services. Wilson & Knight Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the First Baptist Church of Itta Bena.
