Funeral services for Harley T. Matthews of Winona were at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 18, in the Lee Funeral Home Chapel, with burial following in the Bethlehem Baptist Church Cemetery near Winona, with military honors at graveside.
Visitation was Tuesday, from noon until service time, at Lee Funeral Home.
Mr. Matthews died from complications of Alzheimer's disease at the State Veterans Home in Kosciusko on Friday, February 14. He was 81 years old.
Mr. Matthews was born in Kilmichael on November 11, 1932, to Arthur Lee and Ada Moorhead Matthews. He was a retired Army staff sergeant and a veteran of the Korean War. He was also a retired production manager for J. A. Olson Company in Winona. Mr. Matthews was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church, the VFW, Post #52 of the American Legion, and the Korean War Veterans Association. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Blaylock Matthews; his sister, Lavelle Collins; and two brothers, Arthur Lee Matthews, Jr. and Calvin Matthews.
Survivors include four children, Sara Wanda Matthews Brett of Starkville, Monica Lynn Matthews Tolbert of Birmingham, Ala., Harley Thomas Matthews of Winona, and Timothy Lee Matthews of Winona; two sisters, Pauline Collins of Lake Cormorant and Christine Watson of Walnut; one brother, Gene Matthews of Greenville; and six grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Bracky Brett, Nicholas Brett, Conald Ashley, Jr., Harley Matthews, Timmy Matthews, and Tommy Matthews.
