Lady Rebs nearing 30 wins

The Carroll Academy Rebels are taking the state by storm and is thundering their way toward a state championship.

The Lady Rebels improved their record to 29-13 as they breezed through the Class A North Central Tournament and earned a spot in the Class A tournament held at Rebul Academy this week.

The Lady Rebels beat Hebron in the tournament finals 56-43 and earned their berth in the finals by knocking off Benton 44-21 in the semifinals on last Friday.

Carroll, the No. 1 seed from District 4, held a slim 18-14 lead after the first period, but began to pull away by halftime thanks to an 18-11 run in the second frame.

The Lady Rebels outscored Hebron, the top seed from District 3, 13-7 in the third period for a 49-32 lead headed to the fourth quarter.

Madison Womble led Carroll with 15 points. Cori McCrary tacked on 14. Womble, Bailey Marett and McCrary were named to the all-tournament team.

Hebron made it to the title game with a 44-34 win over Sharkey-Issaquena Friday.

In Friday's win, Carroll's pressure enabled it to take a 13-1 lead over the Lady Raiders after one quarter of play. Benton trailed 19-9 at the half, but the Lady Rebels put the game out of reach with an 18-6 advantage in the third.

Womble led the way with 14 points. Sarah Mumme tallied 11, and Sydney Claire Liddell had 10. McCrary finished with eight.

Benton beat SIA for third place and advances to the state tournament.
