A celebration of life for Tommie Earl Bowers, Sr., 83 of Grenada was held 11:00 a.m. Friday, February 14, 2014 at Williams and Lord Funeral Home in Greenwood with Reverend Jerry McNeer officiating.
Mr. Bowers died Monday, February 10, 2014 at UMC in Jackson. He was born in Carroll County May 31, 1930 to the late Lonnie and Etta Gertrude Fillyaw Bowers. He was a United States Air Force veteran, and he enjoyed spending time with his family, his friends, his cows and his dog 'Buddy.' Mr. Bowers was nicknamed 'T Tex' and 'Tootsie.' He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and a wonderful brother. In addition to his parents, Mr. Bowers was preceded in death by a daughter, Shirley 'Bonnie' Hughes and two brothers, Rube Williamson and James 'Dick' Bowers.
Visitation was 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday, February 13, 2014 at Williams & Lord Funeral Home in Greenwood. Burial was in Evergreen Cemetery in North Carrollton. Pallbearers were Tommie Bowers, III, William Bowers, Jr., Denver Bowers, II, Phillip McDaniel, Nickey Williamson, Jesse Yates, Evan Eddington and Anthony Beckwith.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Janet Bowers of Grenada; four sons, Tommie Earl Bowers, Jr. of Jefferson, James Rube Bowers of Grenada, William Lynn Bowers of Vaiden and Denver Lee Bowers of Carrollton; two sisters, Louise 'Sister' Elmore of West Point and Myrtle 'Sissy' Lott of Vicksburg; 13 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
