On Monday night the Stars defeated Glenbrook in the first round of the north state 53-45 behind a game high 17 from senior Brooks Lott. The Stars will face top five AA Leake Thursday.
"This boys team is a tenacious basketball team," head coach Durward Stanton said. "They're playing really good basketball right now, and they play really good team ball."
Lane Boyette and Will Amason had 10 points each in the win over Glenbrook.
The Stars are currently the number 3 seed and had a great show at the district tournament at Bayou last week.
In the opening round of the district tournament, the Stars got a 48-40 win over Clarksdale Lee. Luke Pittman scored 17 in that game with Lane Boyette pouring in 15 points. A buzzer beater kept the Stars from a number 2 seed or possibly a district championship as Kirk sank a three pointer as time expired. The Raiders beat the Stars 32-31 with 15 points from Pittman.
The Lady Stars' season ended at 26-13 in the district tournament as they finished at the fourth spot. The Lady Stars got 18 points from Mary Kendall Ware in the opening game over Bayou and 12 points from Sara Taylor Goss in the 44-34 win. The Lady Stars season came to an end with a 44-39 loss to Indianola. Ware poured in 16 points, and Megan Macko had 10.
