WINONA -- The Winona Tigers remain on a roll and stay atop the 3A rankings.
The Tigers are currently ranked third in 3A basketball under Velma Jackson and Cleveland Eastside.
The Tigers gained two district wins over Kemper County Friday and Independence on Tuesday and maintain a comfortable lead in district play.
"We're playing well right now," head coach Evinn Beck said. "The kids are playing great defense, and they're continuing to play good defense. They're improving in all areas of the game."
On Tuesday the Tigers defeated Independence 74-48 and improved to 18-3 on the season, Beck's best since starting 15-5 in 2011.
The Tigers have relied on Tony Taylor, who is averaging better than 20 points a game since the Montgomery County Tournament. He scored 33 in the win over French Camp and poured in 18 over Independence.
Josh Everette chipped in with 18 points and 10 assists in the win.
"We're still a fairly young team that have our ups and downs," Beck said. "But seeing them get better each and every game is a plus and helps a lot."
Winona travels to Nettleton tomorrow and return home Tuesday in a district matchup against Louisville.
