Rebs still in the hunt for playoff spot

CARROLLTON -- After a critical district win, hopes to play in the postseason are still alive for the Carroll Academy Rebels.

The Rebels knocked off Greenville Christian 21-0 in their home finale Friday night at Gordon Field.

The end of the first quarter found both teams scoreless, although GCS was knocking on the door at the end of the first. The series ended when a deflected pass in the end zone by Austin Brewer was intercepted by Tyler Henson to stop the threat. Both teams would struggle offensively until Carroll took over the ball on the GCS 47 and quickly moved the ball on the first play by Reed Fox rushing to the GCS 19. Carroll would move the ball to the seven yard line where with 5:37 to go in the 1st half, Jake Streater ran it into the end zone. Streater would also convert the PAT putting Carroll up 7 -0.

With 1:42 to go in the 1st half, Carroll would again score on a nine yard pass from Jake Streater to Austin Brewer. Streater would kick the PAT to give Carroll a 14-0 halftime lead. Carroll dominated the first half with 68 yards of rushing and 92 yards of passing.

Jake Streater completed 5 of 9 passes for 82 yards in the first half with one TD. Austin Brewer completed 1 of 2 for 10 yards. Austin Brewer caught 4 of the passes for 47 yards and a TD. Tyler Henson had a catch for 35 yards.

The second half was a defensive battle. However, with 8:14 to go in the 3rd quarter, Jake Streater ran it in from six yards out, Austin Brewer added the PAT to give Carroll a 21-0 lead. GCS would not give up and with 2 seconds left in the 3rd, hit a 50 yard strike, but did not score on the drive. Neither team would score in the 4th.

Overall Carroll had 30 carries for 105 rushing yards, with Jake Liddell leading the way with 11 carries for 43 yards, Reed Fox had 2 carries for 28 yards, Tristan Tackett had 4 carries for 17 yards. Total passing yards were six for 12 for 92 yards, with Carroll only attempting one pass in the second half.

Hunter McCorkle led the defense with eight solo tackles, four assist, a sack and a fumble recovery. Jordan Bell had four solo tackles, one assist and a sack. Reed Fox had three solos and one assist. Interceptions were made by Tristan Tackett, Tyler Henson and Austin Brewer. Tyler Henson also had a fumble recovery.

Carroll heads to Central Holmes Christian School for its last regular season game of the year.
