AVALON - Arthur William Browning, 69, died Saturday August 17, 2013, at Baptist East Memorial Hospital in Memphis.
He was born in Greenwood June 16, 1944 to the late Melbourne K. and Ella Hardin Browning. He was a member of Carrollton Baptist Church and served in the Mississippi and Alabama National Guard. He graduated from J.Z. George High School and attended Belhaven College in Jackson and worked as a Registered Radiologic Technologist in Mississippi, Tennessee, and Alabama. He also was a contracted inspector at Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville, Ala. from 1984 to 1993. After retiring from Redstone Arsenal he was instrumental in establishing the John Hurt Museum in Valley where he served as curator.
Funeral Services with family and friends will be 11 a.m. on Saturday, August 24, 2013 in Evergreen Cemetery with Reverend Lanny Haley officiating.
He is survived by two daughters, Heather B. (Cary) Simpson of Germantown, Tenn., and Holly B. Collins of Germantown, Tenn., seven grandchildren, Sarah Simpson, Miriam Simpson, Caleb Simpson, Rebekah Simpson, Anna Simpson, Preston Collins and Jeffrey Collins; Brother, Hardin (Josephine Neill) Browning of North Carrollton, two sisters, Kay B. Sanders of Carrollton Janice B. (George) McCrory of Carrollton and a special friend, Jean Tutor Austin of Memphis, Tenn.
