Winona’s Tigers to face South Pontotoc today

WINONA -- With the playoff picture shaping up, the Winona Tigers look to get a high seed heading into the postseason.

The Tigers (13-4) will face district rivals South Pontotoc today and will look to remain one of the top 4-3A teams looking to get the one seed in the playoffs.

The Tigers got their first district loss Friday when they faced Louisville. The Tigers fell to the Wildcats 7-0. Winona got three hits in the contest from Stephan Gant, Hunter Acy and Josh Carpenter. Carpenter got the complete game start and struck out eight.

The Tigers hope to even the series with Louisville Friday when the Wildcats come to Winona.

The Tigers hosted 6A Grenada Saturday, but came up one run short in a nine inning fight with the Chargers, falling 8-7.

Patrick Morrison got the start on the mound and pitched seven innings. Morrison only allowed four hits and struck out three batters.

Ryan Parkerson made a relief appearance and pitched one inning. Parkerson did not allow a run on two hits. Hunter Acy came in to pitch the ninth inning.

The Tigers scored seven runs on 10 hits, with Zack Carter leading the way offensively.

Carter went 4 for 4 with two home runs and 6 RBIs. Marlow Hill and Andrew Wilson both had two hits. Colby Meeks also had a hit.
