WINONA - Police have arrested one man in connection with a Monday night shooting.

James Eskridge, 36, of Winona was arrested Monday night and charged with aggravated assault, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and discharging a weapon in the city limits. He is being held at the Carroll-Montgomery Correctional Facility in Vaiden on a $300,000 bond.

According to Winona Police Captain Tommy Bibbs, officers were dispatched to Tyler Holmes Memorial Hospital in Winona at 10:30 p.m. Bibbs said Antonio James, 25, of Vaiden was being treated for a gunshot wound to his left thigh.

Bibbs said during the investigation, he learned the shooting occurred "in the street" on North Union Extended in Winona. The weapon was a 40 caliber pistol, Bibbs alleged.

"Eskridge was arrested at a home on North Union that night," Bibbs said.

The victim was airlifted to University Medical Center in Jackson.

Bibbs said the shooting is still under investigation.

Eskridge's preliminary hearing is set for Tuesday, October 1.
