WINONA -- The Winona Christian Stars had to get their legs underneath them, and head coach Joe Boyette said he thinks they're getting over the hump now.

In their last matchup against Canton Academy, one of the top ranked teams in basketball, the Stars fell 50-48 after leading nearly the entire game. Boyette said it was a tough loss, but he thinks the 12-6 Stars are close to finding their shots.

"It's similar to last season, when we struggled with our shots," Boyette said. "When we got hot, it was the right time. Right now, we're just not shooting the ball well."

The Stars got 18 points from forward Luke Pittman against the number 4 ranked Canton team.

"Defensively, we're holding teams to their season lows," Boyette said. "Once our shooting comes around, we'll be fine."

With Pittman in the front court, the Stars have Lane Boyette and Brooks Lott as leaders in the backcourt and averaging in double figures.

The Winona Christian Lady Stars didn't have a problem with Canton and walked away with a 37-34 win over the Lady Panthers.

The Lady Stars are currently at 16-7 on the season.

Mary Kendall Ware lead the way for the Lady Stars with 15 points, and Megan Macko scored 12 points. The day before the Lady Stars knocked off the Humphreys Academy Lady Rebes 55-37 behind 16 from Sara Taylor Goss and 15 from Ware.
