One man was killed, and another was airlifted to Jackson following two separate single-car wrecks in Carroll County.

Harvey Smith, 63, of Black Hawk was killed early Monday morning when his vehicle veered off the road.

Smith had been traveling along County Road 75 about four miles from Highway 17, near the Holmes County line. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

"The accident occurred on a pretty narrow spot on that road," Carroll County Sheriff Jerry Carver said. "Right now, it appears he left the road and hit a tree."

In a separate incident, the driver of a Dodge Dakota pickup truck traveling on U.S. 82 apparently left the road and crashed near County Road 321.

The driver, identified by Highway Patrol officials as Nicholas Boyd, is also from the Black Hawk area.

The accident happened at around 5 p.m. Boyd had been traveling east on U.S. 82 about five miles west of Carrollton.

Boyd was airlifted to the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson. The hospital had no information this morning on Boyd's condition.
