KILMICHAEL - A Duck Hill man is dead after a shooting Christmas Day, and the Montgomery County Sheriff's Department has arrested and charged a man with murder.

David Small, 51, of Duck Hill was shot and killed December 25 at a home located at 503 E. Stone Street in Kilmichael, Montgomery County Sheriff Bubba Nix said.

Nix said his department was dispatched to the scene at 12:40 p.m., and he immediately called in investigators from the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation and crime scene analysts from the Crime Lab for assistance.

Nix said upon his arrival at the scene, he found Small's body lying in the driveway of the home. Nix said the victim had been shot multiple times, but official cause of death will not be released until after an autopsy is completed.

At the scene, Nix began interviewing several witnesses at the home.

"We were told who the shooter was," Nix said.

Robert Lewis Thompson, 37, of Kilmichael was arrested and charged with murder and possession of a fire arm by a convicted felon.

Nix said Thompson called the sheriff's department and asked if a deputy could pick him up. Nix explained that Thompson surrendered himself to authorities on Binford Ave. and was taken to the Montgomery County Sheriff's Department to be interviewed.

He said a .38 Special revolver was recovered on December 26.

As for motive for the shooting, Nix said investigators are busy working to determine what really happened.

"We were told there was an altercation between the two," Nix said.

Thompson, who went before Judge Larry Bamberg for an initial hearing on December 26, is currently being held at the Carroll Montgomery Regional Correctional Facility without bond.

Nix said the investigation is ongoing.
