Joyce "Granny" Taylor Gorman, 71, of Holcomb, died on Friday, February 21, 2014 at her residence. Visitation was 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Sunday, February 23, 2014 at Leflore Baptist Church and Monday, February 24, 2014 10 a.m. until service time at 11 a.m. at Leflore Baptist Church. Interment was in Leflore Cemetery in Holcomb with Bro. Nathan Gorman, Bro. Larry Livingston and Bro. Elbert McKnight officiating. Wilson & Knight Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Gorman was a dedicated, lifelong member of Leflore Baptist Church where she was active in the Women's Outreach. She worked for the Grenada Public School District for over twenty years and was active with the Grenada Bands where she was a Band Mom. She was a dedicated mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was preceded in death by her husband Nathan Wayne Gorman, Sr. and her brothers Sidney Taylor, Ben Taylor, Harry Taylor, Jack Taylor and her sister Ruth McKnight.
Mrs. Gorman is survived by her son, Nathan W. Gorman, Jr. and wife Beckie of Helena, Arkansas; daughters Janet G. Moore and husband Jamie of Pearl, Becky Bishop and husband Jerry of Holcomb, Stacy Henson and husband Danny of Holcomb; and her sister Mary Ashmore and husband Odell of Teoc. She is also survived by four brothers, Robert Taylor, Pat Taylor and his wife Brenda of Teoc, Joe Taylor and wife Sue of Oklahoma and Edwin Fant Taylor, Sr. and his wife Sarah of Florida. She is survived by thirteen grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Michael Morgan, Jr., Miles Raney, Mark Byars, Blake Henson, Anthony Henson and Drew Henson. Honorary Pallbearers were Alan Ward, Henry Bailey, Danny Henson, Jerry Bishop, Sr., Terry Byars, Bob Welch, Marcus Thomas and Anthony Flanders.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Leflore Baptist Church Building Fund 1438 Hwy 7 South, Holcomb, MS 38940.
