WINONA – The investigation continues into an officer-involved shooting during the evening of May 12.

Lt. Mark Steed with the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation said the investigation is ongoing in a shooting involving an on-duty Winona police officer. Steed said in this phase of the investigation, he did not want to release any names in the case, and all information in the case is “being pursued proactively.”

Steed outlined events leading up to the shooting, but said he could not release any further details about the case.

According to Steed, around 8:30 p.m. on May 12, a resident alerted the Montgomery County Emergency Operations Center of a possible drunk driver near in the area of Mortimer Street in Winona. Soon after, a second caller reported shots fired in that same area.

Steed said two Winona police officers were dispatched to the 100 block of Mortimer Street in Winona. “The incident ensued from there,” Steed said.

No fatalities resulted in the shooting, and the officers were not injured during the incident.

Steed said investigators are seeking possible criminal charges against an unnamed suspect in the case.
