GREENWOOD - Esther Smith Chapin, age 74, died Wednesday February 19, 2014 at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Oxford from heart failure.
She was born in Monroe, La. February 26, 1939 to the late Jody and Jewel Smith and resided in Greenwood most of her life. She was a member of the United Pentecostal Church in Greenwood. She worked as a private sitter and at Gibson's Department Store, Golden Age Nursing Home and retired from Baldwin Piano. She was preceded in death by her husband, Hugh B. Chapin, Jr.
Visitation was 12:00 to 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 26 at Williams & Lord Funeral Home in Greenwood. Memorial Services were 2:00 p.m. Wednesday at Williams & Lord Funeral Home with Brother Kerry Owen and Brother Damon Tipton officiating. Burial was in McNutt Cemetery.
She is survived by two daughters, Brenda Ann Bruce of Greenwood and Mary Ann Bell of Houston, Texas; two sons, Jimmy A. Lee of Grenada and Hugh Chapin of Greenwood; three brothers, Roy Smith of Monroe, La., Wayne Smith of Crump, Tenn., and Joe Smith of Monroe, La.; two sisters, Sandy Crawford of Rayville, La. and Clara Mae Watson of Montana; six grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to St Jude Children's Hospital.
